The Huawei P20 Pro made a breakthrough in 2018 with its triple camera, which is becoming more common on top-tier flagship devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.
We now see more evidence that the successor year will overcome a similar situation by offering a 10x optical zoom lens in the Huawei P30 Pro's camera array.

Leaked WinFuture showcases visible renders of the notched device, with four cameras on the back. One of them has a square shape around the camera, which reportedly provides optical zoom.
The report does not detail how the company was able to achieve this major breakthrough, but previous reports have said the firm is using a newly developed periscope system. Digital zoom cameras continue to dominate the smartphone space. This usually means that the image quality gets worse as soon as the user tries to get closer to the subject with the smartphone.
This was largely due to design constraints on thin smartphones. Standalone cameras use depth in the lens to create optical zoom capabilities, but that's not possible with razor-thin smartphones.
There is only one company rumored to be of interest to Samsung and that is Corephotonics. They developed a periscope-style camera with 5x optical zoom. It is not yet known whether Huawei has worked on such technology in-house, or enlisted the support of another image processing company.
The periscope-style camera design effectively positions the zoom lens on its side, allowing you to get closer to your subject without losing visual fidelity.
We will be glad to see the results achieved by the camera of the P30 Pro smartphone. Last year's P20 series was presented in March last year, so the appearance of the new item is expected sooner rather than later.
Considering the company unveiled the Huawei Mate X this week at Mobile World Congress, the P30 lineup promises to be a true masterpiece of the manufacturer.
